Growing up with emotionally absent parents was quite eventful. Mine were not fully in touch with their emotions and by extension, couldn't nurture mine. For quite a number of times, I recollect wanting to leave my family in search of a place I could call 'Home'. In mine, at that time, there was little or no room for emotions. These experiences had adverse effects on my life in many ways; I grew up with self-doubts, feeling unloved and low self-esteem. All of these continued till I took the bold step of taking full responsibility for my personal development and became more aware of myself and in touch with my emotions.

Like myself, I have met lot of young people in different occasions who had experienced similar trauma while growing up which have affected their adult life negatively.

A lot of young people in our society today with toxic character and low self esteem are primarily products of poor parenting. The consequence of dysfunctional family is far reaching, as an interconnected society, anyone is likely to become a victim of their toxic traits directly or indirectly if nothing is done.
